Thank is not me. It is Dennis Wasko and he is waking up a Bothrops asper after surgery. They need a little breathing assistance to come back.

I'v never seen or heard of this, even after doing several surguries (radio-telemetry) on vipers.

Dr. Harry Green made a video on this surgery. It may not be 100% necessary with each case but sometimes the snakes need a little help coming back. If you had snakes stay asleep you might want to help the next one out.

sorry that big of a snake would only be a ductectomy i cant tell but kinda looks like there is a mark or a suture under the eye above the lip where they cut for ductectomy i could be seeing things wrong though

You could not be more wrong about this snake. The surgery was a radio transmittor surgery for tracking. The snake was a wild snake being tracked for Dennis's PhD research.
I would not post a photo of a venomoid surgery nor would I be present for one.
