From looking at the head it looks to be a nerodia (water snake) but im really not sure which type it is. I dont think it will eat insects...watersnakes each such animals as frogs, toads, minnows and in some cases even crawdads. One more thing...Is that snake dirty or is that just it's normal color?

This photo was sent to the rescue from a shelter. We figured a water snake but don't know what kind. They have been informed as to how to keep and feed it until we can go pick it up. I don't know if it's dirty or not. The snake was found in southern Michigan.

alright, if it was found in southern michigan then it is most likely a dirty northern water snake...
