Thanks a lot Edmund.
Your sculptures too, are very impressive. I particularly like the softshell and map turtle. The patterns and coloring on them is beautiful!
Just wondering, how big are they?
Are you currently working on any new ones??
Excellent work!

Very cool sculptures, where did you learn to sculp? Is it something anyone can do?

Hey Joeysgreen, thanks.
I would say that pretty much anybody with imagination and creativity can sculpt. I started sculpting in my highschool pottery class(I didn't like making pots), and now, it's one of my best hobbies.

That's awesome... what kind of tools do you have for this? Your newest photo's of the snake had some sort of scale mold? That was some pottery class!

My pottery class was mainly what sparked my interest in sculpting. My sculptures back then were horrible in comparison to my recent ones. I'll see if I can find an old one to post.
I have several tools (metal, wooden, plastic) for sculpting, but none of them would work for the scales, so I had to make my own stamps. It took a while and several moldings before I got the right shape and size.
It also took a lot experimenting with materials (clays, paints, rubber, resin) as well as research on the internet about clays, moldmaking, casting, painting; But after all of that, I think it's worth it.
Also, It probably helps to be passionate about what you are sculpting to get it to be its best.

Thanks -coming from a fellow sculptor your comments mean a lot.
The map turtle is approx 6" long, the softshells a little smaller. I like paying attention to detail, but in terms of the amount of time I need to spend on one piece, any thoughts I had about making a profit on these things flew out the window.
What sort of info did you turn up on mold-making and casting? I'd be real interested in whatever information you'd care to share.
BTW, the croc head is amazing; did you ever try a gavial (gharial)?

Thanks for the comment felicianolis.
Edmund, I am still learning how to prefect my mold-making and casting. I just got some equipment not too long ago that will eliminate small surface bubbles on the molds and castings.
If it is ok, I would be glad to e-mail you a bunch of info on mold making and casting.
I have never tried making a gavial, if the croc head turns out ok, then perhaps I will try one.
