This is my setup for my adult male ball python. I have had this guy for about two years. He started off in a 30 gallon as a baby and has moved up over the years. He is now in a 4'x2'x2' cage that I made for him. He seems to love it and is always exploring.

Thats a great looking cage. Ball pythons seem to be popular. I have one milk and one king .
Have you had any trouble with snake burns from bulb in cage?
My friend has a Ca king and she has bulb in cage kinda like yours facing down and in a dome type thing (precision cage).
Her snake never got burnt and it does heat up cage well. I read its not a good idea yet I have yet to meet anyone that actually knows of anyone that had a snake burnt with bulb in cage.

Thanks for the comment. I have never had any problem with the lights and the snake getting burnt. He has curled up on the piece of drift wood under them many times but that has always been as close as he would get. This is the same setup that I had previously with me california king, honduran milksnake, and bearded dragon and never had problems with them either.

you should still put somthing around those lights.if he decides to go on to them he could burn him self really bad.but that is great set up!

The pet store that I used to work at had bulbs in the cage and we had a bp get on one and burn himself really badly. I no longer have that job because I let the owner know that it wasnt smart to have them in there like that. With a cage that size though, (2 ft is pretty tall for a ball) you shouldnt have a problem with bps getting on it, but a gaurd wouldnt be a bad idea.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It has gotten me paranoid about the lights being exposed now so I am going to fab up a guard for the two heat lamps asap tomorrow out of some wire mesh. I realize even though I have never had any problems from them in the past doesnt mean that I will never in the future. No sense in taking the chance of him getting hurt over something that will only take me a few minutes to fix.

I sure would hope that no one would ever try to feed a cat to a ball python or any kind of snake for that matter. Ball pythons are much to small to be able to eat something the size of a cat and for second that would be very cruel to try to feed something like a cat to a snake. Im sure there is someone out there in the world that has tried something like this but in my own opinion it would be completely inhumane.

What makes a cat different than a rat, rabbit, gerbil, mouse, or pig? Just because it is not normal doesnt mean it is inhumany....Retics in Indonesia eat dogs....Does that make Retics inhumane? No I dont think so...I dont know why anyone would want to feed a snake a cat but it is not inhumane to feed it to them...Ive never tried it...Plus it is not the norm because they are expensive and they arent breed with enough numbers such as rabbits and rats. Or with enough size like pigs.
