Keywords: ball python, coconut hide, hide

I had a popular, commercially-made, cave hide for my ball python and left it in her cage for a month or so. In that time, I never saw her enter that hide. Admittedly, the hide was probably bigger than recommended for a young ball python, but at one point I buried part of the hide so that much of the interior was filled and she would have a tighter fit. She still never used it.

Last week, I was in a local store and saw these coconut hides at a reasonable price. I figured that I'd see what she did with one. Within a few days of my making the switch, she began using this hide occasionally. She still doesn't spend as much time in this hide as she did previously in her favorite tile hide, but she's splitting her time now. She also seems to spend some time in her log hide as she moves from the coconut to the tiles.

The temperature in the coconut is about 87 to 92 degrees F. I only saw it near 92 for a short time. The temperature is currently closer to 88 and is dropping. I don't know whether the temperature is controlling the time she spends in this hide.

As always, I appreciate any thoughts.
