I just got this snake, I want to know is What kind of morph if any is this? It is very light in color with the normal dark brown/ black being light brown, and the normal light brown being tan.

Thanks, Jess

Hi there,
Well after reviewing your photos, all I can see is a possibilty that the snake may have some odd genetics in it. It is not a morph. The snake has some characteristics that some HETS have in our hobby. All I can say is prove it out. You will have to determine sex, breed it when ready, hatch out young, breed them back to mom or dad, to isolate the genetics. If you get a really cool snake, then you know its genetic. This is a long process, maybe 3 years. It is really beautiful, and has a nice head color, but it is not a morph. Sorry..., but I hope I helped.

Thanks I actually found out what color it is. I sent out photos to some breeders and got a photo back with "Is this what you are looking for" and found out that it is called "Desert" not “Desert Ghost”
It is an Un proven morph and there are few found. Some have very little pattern or “mild” pattern like mine.
Things I was told to look for were:
Rust colored head
Very little pattern or light pattern to the belly
Little to mild patterning across the back
Light tan and light brown markings with rust colored “Blushing”
Normal dark brown eyes

I was told that the ghost was similar but with more subdue colors and lighter eyes but I could be wrong… I’m just getting into ball python breeding.

Here are some addresses to other “Desert” ball photos and info

I think that this one is Wild Caught and that might be why it wont eat. I have tried everything but nothing in the past 3 months. It was rescued 3 months ago.

I dont know what to tell you other than to keep trying, Ball pythons are notorious for going long streaches without eating. If it starts looking too bad you might try to force feed it, although I will caution you, force feeding can be extreamly stresfull on a snake. Hope you get it to eat, sorry I couldn't be more helpful:(

wow it has been so long sence I posted this photo... almost 2 years.

Update:
This snake is a hermaphordite. (sp?) I still say that is is a Desert but others have there own ideas. I nolonger have her, but she is eating now and is getting bigger.

it can be funny how much you learn with in a short time. I.E giving a snake a 2 week break from being held once you bring it home. (that was why she wouldn't eat)

I now have 5 happy and healthy Ball Pythons and I'm expecting a clutch of eggs soon.

Thank you all for your help and for looking at my photos
