I'd love to see pics of the rest of the enclosure, it looks huge! Also, is that a large pond/tank to the right of the animal??

Yes, thats a 3ft by 7ft swim tank for Rudy. My boss likes to make his pets as comfortable as he can. And thats why he has me working for him too. It's my pleasure to take care of their needs. And he just built a 8ft by 15ft room for his new water monitor.

While I compliment the large size of space that this animal is getting, having it live on tile and wooden planks is hardly "as comfortable as possible". In reality I have seen few set ups that seem humane to keeping such a large undomesticated animal. Generally only some zoos have setups that I would categorize as acceptable. That may seem harsh and irrational, but consider the size of the animal, in my opinion large monitors should be kept by either no one or a select few. While this set up is bigger than most, it is still entirely inadequate for such an animal.

well they are definitly doing better than most people... so i wouldnt complain... although people probably shouldnt keep large animals, they do, and they do an aweful job of it... and you should be thankful that this monitor fell into the hands of his current owners and be thankful for people like this do this much for them... otherwise he would most likely be living in a bathtub or some other inadequate enclosure... im sure that lizard is much healthier and more comfortable that most monitors this size out there in the captive world...

Thats linoleum, not tile. And doesn't it look a little barren to you? It's not finished yet. And he's going to have an access tunnel to an outside area soon. You don't think he looks happy in the pic?

Haha, No I don't know if he looks "happy" as you monitors don't have such facial expressions. i can assure that he is not happy just as you would not be happy in a 15 foot room with no changing environment. This plan for a tunnel to an outside space is a really good one, and I'm not doubting that you have a way better cage than most other monitor keepers, but please, you can't defend linoleum flooring as suitable.

In response to Calleman, yes, he's a healthy hefty guy. I stupidly thought you were talking about his water in his tub! Silly me.

Most of the time he's mellow, but sometimes he gets an attitude, and starts whipping that tail of his around. And puffs his neck up making the sound of a steam engine. Very impressive! Thats just once in a while. Like I said, he's usually very mellow. There's a story behind that, But too long to tell.
