You should consider a background you can buy any color poster board and tape it on after you cut it to size you want. They seem to do better with a background as it gives them a better sense of security .
I imagine they feel they are climbing a wall, etc instead of open glass.
The set up would look nicer to.

I would just reconsider the entire tank. A house gecko will need a lot more plants and hides in there to feel secure expecialy a baby and im mean a lot more plants then you have now. are you going to be going in there every day to feed the fish and are you going to enclose of the tank so the gecko doesnt get in and drown and then there is the pain of getting food in the tank every day. And betas can be messy are you going to take apart the entire cage to clean out the tank every 5 days. I would reconsider its unrealistic and wont work with out a lot of time it was a neat idea but not for a ten gallon house gecko tank

The betta bowl doesn't have a betta in it! The "Fish in Space" is the main focus/theme of the tank, like I already said. I am planning on getting space themed decorations, and neon plants to put in it, but since there is not much of a selection of neon plants for reptiles, I will have to get fish decorations. My house geckos were given to me, and they were in a small kritter keeper. This gives them much more space for their size (the biggest is only about 2 inches long), and I will upgrade to a larger tank when needed, still with a space theme.

I know the whole space theme stuff. and I thank you for giving the geckos a bigger enclosure but you need to get more hides and plants in with them ASAP regaurdless of the fact if the match the "space theme" or not. Your going to stress you geckos. and like I said in the begining post. are you going to go into the tank to feed the fish every day and find a way to keep the geckos out of it. and again you'll have to take the whole tank apart to get the beta bowl out and clean it out like ever 4-5 days because there it no filter. if you dont clean it out every 4 days at most your going to have a problem. I know you want a space theme but geckos aren't from space get a hampstem or something and buy a space themed cage.

I guess I have to say it again, THERE IS NOT A FISH IN THERE! I got the betta tank because it is missing pieces, so it was free, and I drilled a few extra holes in it so my geckos can go in it. They seem to like it in there. They are not stressed, and they do have places to hide, just not in plants. Also, betta water does not need to be changed every four days, and if so it is because they are overfed. Bettas should only be fed once every other day or so. And please don't tell people what pets they should or shouldn't have. You don't have the right to do such things, especially when you don't know them.

You said your theme was "fish in space" why would you put a fish tank in there if no fish. I may not know you but I do know geckos. They need a lot more cover then your providing if you want more opinions then check out this link. http://www.reptileforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31604 I asked for help cause Im not getting through to you. YOU NEED MORE COVER FOR YOUR GECKOS. Im trying to be nice, cause yea..I dont know how old you are.. But that is a bad tank and unfit for geckos. Im glad you took rescue geckos but you need to do a bit of more research before taking on a project. Do you even know what humidity they should be kept at. I do and I can tell you a bare tank like that doesnt have it. and you need a better thermometer you getting bad readings and not from the whole tank, what are you feeding them. and I'll say it one more time put more plants in there now

Okay, first I am not a kid. I am 28, married with 2 kids, and my husband is 29. We are reptile enthusiasts that have kept reptiles for at least 20 years. I am currently a reptile specialist at a pet store, and have gone through training classes about reptiles so I would have general info about alot of reptiles instead of info about just the reptiles I keep. Just like anyone else, I learn new things every day. If someone asks me a question I do not know the answer to, I look up the answer, or I refer to the care sheets we have at the store. I do not tell customers info just to make a sale, and I do not guess. I would not tell someone something that would hurt or kill their pet. My husband and I are experienced reptile keepers, we have many reptiles as pets, and we are successfully breeding a few also. When these pictures were taken, I had just finished putting everything in the cage, and wanted to get the geckos into a better home. It is not done yet. The pictures were taken before the cage was finished because the girl at work that I got the geckos from wanted to see how I was using the betta bowl in the cage. The space theme is a creative and decorative idea, and reptile cages don't have to be boring just because their natural habitat is. How boring the habitat is, is up to the reptile keeper, not the type of reptile you keep. The bedding is Ecoearth with aquarium gravel sprinkled in it for effect. I know the strip thermometers are crap, I wanted to make sure the temp did not get too hot under the basking light until I put the other stuff in. Their humidity needs to be high, and it is. Just like my firebellied toads, they get misted frequently throughout the day, and have the same bedding as the geckos(which by the way holds moisture quite well and keeps the humidity up). I do not need to go into specifics with you on how I care for them and what I feed, or how often. I would not have an animal that I could not properly care for. If you think you need to further criticise me, then look at the few pictures I have of my frilled dragons. I am sure you could find something wrong with their cages too. There are plenty of pictures out there of other reptile cages that do not have nearly enough hiding spaces, or basking spots, and they are very boring AND do not have what the reptile needs in them. Once my house gecko cage is finished, I will have plenty for them to do, everything they will need and then some, and they will continue to have fun stress-free lives under my care. Just like all the rest of my pets. I hope your knowledge about house geckos did not just come from babysitting 2 geckos for awhile. While some are jumpy, a few of mine are very personable and will move to the top of the cage when I open it so I can pet them. A few of them also come out of hiding when I come into the room, not the other way around. Of the few house geckos that I care for, only one is jumpy, and he is the dominant male. Thank you for your care and concern about my one little 10 gallon set-up.

Ok I can tell you one thing your geckos aern't coming to the top of the tank to be pet they trying to get out. Being that your older and have had "prior reptile experiences" worries me that you would even leave geckos in a cagere like that for a day. just cause you work at a petstore doesnt mean you know, I work at the reptile house in a zoo Im not saying anything. Im sorry if I seem confused but from the look of "Maturity" of the tank makes me think your a younger kid.

If my geckos are trying to escape, why don't they? They are happy and healthy in the space themed cage that they are in. And just because I like to use my imagination and to be fun and do things differently doesn't mean that I am a kid. It means that I am creative and that I am open to a wide variety of possibilities, instead of just the traditional things that every reptile keeper has done in the past. I have designed a few reptile habitats for people, and I also design, build and sell branches for reptile habitats. It takes imagination and creativity to design and set up habitats that are unique. If you work at a zoo, you should know that. Most people don't want their cages looking like the same thing everyone else has. That is where I come in. If you think my ideas are childish, so what! My pets are happy and healthy, and I get alot of positive comments on the habitats that I design. Whether they are comments on design, or how well their pet is doing in the new habitat.

your thinking only about yourself. Did you ask the gecko what he wanted because I doubt he wants a space theme. Animals feel more secure in a natural habbitat not a bright zippy one. If you want something themed theme your kids room or something dont put it apon your animals exspecialy those that stress easily

The geckos need more plants and places to hide. "Themes" don't work with reptiles. They need what they need, which is a natural setting.

yea sorry zoohouse but i'm gonna have to side with everyone else here... your geckos will not thrive in this kind of cage. they will be stressed out and will either find a way to escape or suffer and die. it may not be immediate but it will happen. they need a natural cage that mimics the forests they come from
