I know who the Terrapin Institute is. However, my group has a letter of authority from the Maryland DNR to find homes for non-releasable native turtles. We don't know if this animal was kept with other reptiles (in fact, it's very possible that she was exposed to non-native turtles at the animal shelter before she went into rescue, as there were other turtles at the shelter and they didn't know much about turtles). In cases like this, it's better for native populations if the turtle is not released.

You can visit www.matts.petfinder.com to learn more and then e-mail matts_adoptions@hotmail.com to request an application. I've been doing adoptions almost eight years - it's not just one or two turtles, trust me. There are lots of groups and individuals out there helping reptiles.

We have one 4.5" male slider - he's an unusual color, too, and with extra scutes. He's at www.matts.petfinder.com
