honestly, most of my experience with carpets have been with jungles. There are definitely times that they don't hesitate to bite, but overall they aren't too bad. If you are looking into getting one, and you got just one. You'd probably spend a lot of time with him and he would get used to you. Probably like 90% of the time carpets can calm down pretty easily just being handled regularly. The bites aren't too bad either, especially from a baby...

I've also worked a little bit with coastals and I've been struck at and bitten on occasion from them too. I haven't had an irian jaya but I've seen them bite people. Chances are you'll get a great snake that will calm down easily and you will really enjoy. Whatever type of carpet you decide on is just up to your preference...

Nice pic, i was just wondering, i've never had a snake before and i was thinking about getting a jungle carpet, you seem to know a lot about snakes so i figured i'd ask you, do they make good beginner snakes or should i stick to a milk, king, corn etc.?

well, there's a couple things, but overall a jungle wouldn't be a bad beginner snake, it depends more on what you're up for... more than likely you'll be looking at a pretty young one, and they are quite nippy when they're young. So if you get one, you will have to be dealing with some bites and stuff like that and I don't know how you feel about that... they also aren't a real small snake, not huge, but not small... I would be glad to talk with you more about it and feel free to PM me if you want to... thanks and hopefully that'll help out a little...

well, I think it would be a little tough for a first snake. They tend to be pretty nippy when they're little and can be pretty unpredictable... and even when they're nice their feeding response is pretty aggressive... so it's all what your up for, but for a first snake I don't know how easy that would be... they can move pretty quick and they have some pretty large teeth because of their semi-arboreal behavior... If you have any other questions or want to know anything else, I'd be glad to tell you what I've been through with them...
