The snake is some species of Pituophis cantenifer I believe, or Gopher snake. I am not totally sure which subspecies but my guess is probably something like a Pacific gopher. Post the pic on the bull/gopher/pine snake forum. Andy

this is definatley not a species of pituophis. gopher snakes have a distinctive characteristic of having subdivided prefrontal scales giving the impression of four prefrontals when this snake clearly only has one pair (2) prefrontals. after speding an hour and a half trying to key this thing out i have come up with three conlcusions for sure. 1) it's not from the united states; 2) it's not from europe; and 3) it's not from eastern africa. thats it. after an hour and a half!
