O.K. I found one like this (huge!!) in my kitchen this morning - unfortunately I don't have a dig. camera to send photo but mine is darker and has a brown stripe going down it's back - not as hairy either . Any idea what it is? I'm from Ga. by the way.

That looks like a huntsman spider. A large crab spider...giant really!

ohhhhhh you said you found one like this? Did it look like a crab spider? It's sooo hard to tell by just description. Even with photos it's hard to identify a spider. If it has stripes, it's possibly a wolf spider, but wolf's are typically pretty hairy. Search the net for Huntsman spiders, Fishing spiders and Wolf spiders. See if one of those fits your specimen.

i think you are right emeraulde it looks like a northern wolf spider, arctosa cinerea in the uk they live by ponds and streams in burrows
