Not a very good set-up in my opinion. First, those pebbles are just an impaction waiting to happen. If one of those pebbles gets swallowed, odds are your turtle will suffer dire consequences. Also, I hope this is only a temporary set-up (6 months max) because Red Eared Sliders out grow their tanks fast! Is there a filter? I think i see one, but not sure. Turtles are the dirtiest of all aquatic pets, and a better than average filter is required to keep the water as clean as possible.

I'm not knocking your husbandry skills, its just that when I got my first RES (my first turtle) I was unaware and unprepared for the amount of responsibility he actually required. I've since perfected my husbandry skills and have a perfectly healthy turtle. Just make sure you have good filtration, a new home in about 6 months, and a safer substrate. I actually have no substrate, its just the glass bottom. Much safer. Res's are curious and will try to snack on the rocks. Good luck!

If you dont like the look of just bare glass you can go to a tile place or garden place and buy non glazed non treated ceramic tiles or thin flat slate tiles the type used in patios.
Rinse them off lay them on tank bottom junk cant accumulate and they look nice . Ofcourse becareful with the initial placing them in tank but they are light and you can cover all or most of bottom. Once you lay them they are great they seem to help keep turtles nails trimmed a bit to.

In my turtle tank I have black sand from petsmart. It's pleasing to the eye and very easy to clean. My turtle seems to love it and I haven't had any problems with it at all.
