Keywords: red ear slider terrapin basking pond

This is a pond I built specifically for red ear sliders. It is in full sun and is quite shallow so as to warm up quickly on cooler days (plenty of those in a U.K. summer!). It is heavily filtered and suprisingly, the U.V. clarifier on the filter is very effective. I have two female and one male slider, also sharing is a yellow belly and a southern painted and a western painted that are not shown on the photo.

thats fantastic. Do you bring them in foe the winter or let them hibernate ?

You need to move to the states like Florida or Australia if you prefer and set up ponds like that . Thats turtle heaven.

Thanks for your kind comment. I do bring them in as the weather gets cooler. I have two six foot tanks in the garage. I like to feed them up with high quality food for a few months and then I gradually bring them into hibernation. This lasts for three months and then I gradually bring them out again which triggers mating. A couple months more in the tank and then into the pond as soon as it is warm enough. And yes, I would love to live in the States or Australia purely for all the reptiles. I went on a skydiving course at Sebastion in Florida in 2002 and spent half my time in the swamps catching reptiles. I was like a kid in a sweetshop. I'm sure the reptiles were glad to see the back of me!

That is so neat. I wish my diamondback terrapin and my res had one of those. Those turtles must love it. How long did it take you to make it?
