He could have just scratched it open. Just start putting ointment on it, if it goes away, that's great. If not, I'd get it checked out. It really does just look like he scrathced it open though.

hi there. no it wasnt a scratch. she had the red in spots all over her back. lots of people thought it was mites, but it wasnt mites. most likely a fungal infection maybe. after i posted this asking for peoples opinions less then 24 hrs after the lizards entire upper underbelly turned red. it was spreading fast....again, not mites. no red or black mites were found anywhere on the lizard or in cage. i had her return the lizard and they gave her store credit. the lady at the pet store even tried to laugh at at and tried to convince her that it was mites and then tried to sell her mite spray and a whole bunch of other stuff. stating its so easy to get rid of mites. its not an easy thing. you would have thought the pet store person would have pointed out to my gf that see, these are mites. you know, tried to educate her. but again, it wasnt mites. i have never seen mites do that to the scales, bad infection or not. anyways, thanks for your help :)
