I've read heat lamps are useless cuz they are nocturnal do you just use a UTH?" Sorry it took so long to reply to your question, I've been a way for a while with no internet access. Finally back. Now if you still need an answer to your question, I use an infrared heat lamp. Gives him the overhead heating without the irritating brightness of a day bulb.
