The photo isn't clear enough to be sure, but most aquatic salamanders sold in pet stores are either larval Tiger Salamanders (A. tigrinum) which will eventually transform into terrestrial adults, or Axolotols (A. Mexicanum) which left to their own devices remain aquatic. Chances are, you have one of these two, but without a better picture I can't rule out a waterdog (necturus spp.) or other aquatic salamander.

Sorry, lost my train of thought... Other possibilities would be a "Paddle Tailed Salamander" commonly sold in pet stores or one of a few species of newt.
