great another poor animal. Cut the tail, nails and teeth off of a croc monitor and I think I'll be able to keep them safely? How about cutting the tail and lower Jaw of a croc or alligator off? Get venomous or leave the hobby!

I´m with 'arboreals'.
BTW... nice looking animal.

I retract my first statement because I obviously can't read.
*Secondly, cutting the tail and jaw off a crocodilian is entirely different from a venomoid, so calm your little head and drink a soda.
Snake, nice snake and great looking enclosures.

I for one am totally against keeping venomoids. If you don't want to take the chance of getting hurt or killed from a bite, then a rattler obviously isn't for you.

ReptileFreak how would it be different? You'd be taking away their potentially dangerious parts. I will give this guy one thing. Looks like the beautiful animal is well taken care of. Best of luck with him.

An alligator needs it's lower jaw so that it can eat. A venomoid can still eat. An alligator needs it's tail to properly swim, a venomoid can still swim. Basically, taking away what you said form the alligator is pretty much certain death, while the rattlesnake can still live a trouble free life.
I understand your analogy, but this goes hand in hand.
Besides, being jabbed with two long teeth would suck in itself.

The only problem I have w/ this debate...is when people compare this to spay and neutering a dog....Thats like apples and oranges....spay and neutering should be done MORE if nothing else....theres a huge difference between working to end the overpopulation of unwanted puppys and altering a snake so you can keep it easier.....please if your going to debate this....at least find something else to compare it to.

Spay your dog yes.... Neuter NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! makes me squirm just thinking of that =Þ
As of right now, I have no one opinion either for or against creating a "venomoid". Here are two weak opinions that I have both for and agianst. Having a venomoid (properly removed) ceartinly puts zero risk to anyone who handles the animal. A snake with venom the aparatus intact reinforces the handler's level of respect for these wonderful animals.

Your set up is one of the best I have seen. Your snakes are very well taken care of. They say venomoids do not do as well as venomous snakes I would say yours do better than a lot of the ones I see pictured here in the albums.
Great set up, Great snakes, Great job my friend. I only wished everyone could take care of there reptiles as you do.........

Some of you are really ignorant. While this snake is really attractive and quite a looker a venomoid is nothing to be proud of. Venomous snakes NEED there venom glands, and they NEED there fangs. They use the venom for digestion and without it the reptile will die alot sooner. There is no proper comparison to the extraction of fangs to another animal, but its just plane cruel. Since these animals are naturaly venomous they dont constrict there prey, and if worse comes to worse there completley defenseless. I think this snake and setup is beautiful but supporting it is wrong.

"Venomous snakes NEED there venom glands, and they NEED there fangs. They use the venom for digestion and without it the reptile will die alot sooner."
Show me scientific data from a well known and respected Toxinologist. We've all heard this claim, yet I have still to wait to see actual data.
"and if worse comes to worse there completley defenseless."
The animal is in captivity..

Here are 2 sources, the last one actualy explaining the breakdown of chemicals and the prooven use for digestion.
Now show me some scientific data that venomoids live past a normal venomous snake life expectancy. Show me some data in a case which ripping out and slaughtering an animal because of its selfish owners enjoyment to handle a venomoid, actualy helped the snake in the longrun. You cannot provide this information because any good herper, scientist, or hobbyist will tell you its wrong.
I doubt you even know what the process of "de-venoming" a snake is. Take a look at this link and please tell me its humane?
