Even if it was a heat rock there is very little chance on burn. I've used heat rocks in the past and have had no problems. That looks like a Zoomed heat rock which are high quality as far as heat rocks go.

Leogex-unfortunately, all too many times, people get information like you have provided as to "having very little chance to burn", and they get home with their new herp, and all stoked like they are....set up their cage, with the provided wrong information. A week later they are saddened and depressed beyond measure, due to the severe injuries that their little friend is suffering. Being novice, it is not entirely their fault. Yes, they should have checked around more, but is entirely the fault of the provider of the information. I worked in pet stores for years, and I got sick to death of dealing with animals that people brought in from other pet stores who provided wrong, and some time life taking information. I have seen hundreds of animals left with life long scars that are completely avoidable...if correct information is provided. Even the best heat rocks, like zoomed as you say, are dangerous to herps. I have seen them take lives, and ruin the rest. There are so many heating options out now days that there is no reason to use heat rocks. They are outdated, and have been proven time and time again to be a bad idea. For the same amount of money or even less, you can get a top of the line heat mat that your herp will never come in direct contact with, and use that safely providing the necessary climates for your pet's health, without ever endangering its life. Heat rocks work well for pictures, as we have seen here, but are in no way any where near a good idea to use for your pet reptile.

I didn't say that it was a good idea to use a heat rock. I use undertank mats and thermostatically controlled heat tape myself. I was just saying that I've never gotten problems from them. I know about burn stories where reptiles were killed by injuries due to heat rocks. Anyway it makes for a good looking rock too. :-)
