Here is a pic of what happend when I let my Blue striped garter chew on me to long. As you can see my right hand is brused and swollen from the garter's "venom" lol
I have had a similar reaction to an Eastern Gartersnake and no one believed me. Thanks for the photo.

I just read about this. Garters and Hognoses have a "Duvernoy's gland". It is associated with venom production. Even the tiny Ringnecked snake is classified by some researchers as mildly venemous. Imagine that...

OMG...I'd freak out if my hand got like that....and I was thinking about getting a garter...now I'm kinda afraid to...I'm weird about stuff like that...does that happen with everybody??

OUCH!! My ball python bit me and she was locked on for about 10 min. But I( didn't swell like that. Hope ya feel better. reptile_gal.
