This is a triop. I bought a kit in which the eggs are held in suspended animation. You add water and warmth and within days this is what you get. They are pretty cool. They live only 70 days and get 2 inches long. This is only 2 weeks old and 1 inch. My grandson loves them.
I bought 20 packs and put them in a 30 gallon for my little sister/she adores things like brine shrimp and triops

I got some of those for my 4-year old son. They were doing great, and he was taking good care of them until his friend came over and dumped the entire can of brine shrimp pellets in that we were using to feed the triops and my corys. I'd just changed their water the day before and didnt feel like messing with it again, plus didnt have anymore bottled water, so they went down the toilet.
They're weird looking. My mom came over and I showed her, they gave her the creeps. There were about 5 living in his little tank, but only one ever matured. the rest stayed in the nymph-looking stage, even though they were almost an inch long. I still have half a packet of eggs, I may set some up for him again.

Look up "Triop" on a web search, it will tell you all about them and give you places to order the kits. The kits don't cost much and they are really neat to watch, like looking at a bit of prehistoric.

I was always wondering what those were. There was a flood area in El Paso that would fill during the spring and after the tadpoles hatched, these little guys were EVERYWHERE.

Yeah, I used to live in San Angelo, TX. I saw a puddle next to a creek with thousands of them in it. No one who was with me had ever seen them before. We initially thought that they were tadpoles until we caught one and brought it up out of the muddy water. Interesting animals.

I had read that their reproduction rate was amazing... I had thought about buying a ton of them and releasing them into my 55 gal tank. I had hoped that they'd replenish themselves if I got enough. Any personal experience on their breeding rates?
