Around here, we have something that looks like that. They are call Jarusalem crickets. When they are disturbed they flip over on their back and show they big madable, getting rready to bite. They could do pretty good damage, too.

the weta are in a family of there own..
the giant one get as big as a love bird or black bird..the bigger the friendly they become..at present they are all endangered and protected..we hope to breed for export one day...weta dont roll over but will raise hind legs and kick..

I heard they can freeze and then be thawed back and go on with its life...or, maybe its a different kind of weta. Anyway...my sister and a lot of her classmates caught the Jerusalem crickets for the insect collection they had to do for the zoology class. They are plenty of them around here...in the rural and the forests.

Yes,,,the ones that live in the mountains where it gets extremeley cold they hibernate which means yea they freeze in the(or ice) snow.They they let out this liquid in the body or somthing that wakes up the body or somthing really neat!!

I saw these on Animal Planet last night! On "the most extreme!" They talked about how they freeze themselves in the winter and scientists still don't know why it doesn't harm them, like ice crystals kill all of our cells and cause frost bite. They say there is no reason why the ice crystals don't do anything to their cells, but for some reason they survive. They're really cool looking!
