no offense... but I really think its a photo edit.... its an effect you can do to make it look like a pencil drawing or pastel. the reason I think this is because its slightly pixleated... plus there are two spots he missed when erasing the background up in the right corner.
I did the same thing with my bearded dragon when being creative and trying to make a logo.

That definetly looks like he drew it to me. It doesn't look like a doctored photo.

I don't think this piece is a doctored photo. I have a lot of training in Photoshop and I'm pursing a BFA.
The technique is called stippling. It was or8iginally concieved by the artist Seurat.
Basically you make little tiny dots to show form, the same way a computer printer does.
There is a filter in phooshop that creates a similar effet, but with out as much conviction.
The smal dots in the corner are probably from the scan or slide.

Very, very nice! How long did this take to complete?
I don't think this is a doctored photo either...being an art teacher I've taight lessons involving art like this...I'll post some that are similar, I don't have any pics of the ones we did that are exactly like this snake. The ones I'm going to post involve larger dots, but still have the same idea in mind.
