A painful good-bye to Pooh Bear. He was ill for several months. In February, Pooh Bear had major surgery to remove a large tumor from his spleen. On 4/8/03, Pooh Bear became very ill again. He had a blood clot cutting of the circulation to his back legs. He stayed in the emergency vet & also saw a cardiologist & his regular vet. We tried everything possible to give Pooh Bear a chance. On 4/13/03, we brought Pooh Bear home. His vets felt this would be his best chance since he did so much better when we were there. Pooh Bear did fine through the night but, in the morning was in so much pain. Pooh Bear had not improved any & was getting much worse. Today (4/14/03), we made the tough decision to let Pooh Bear go. Pooh Bear peacefully passed on next to his Boston Terrier brother Jack & people family. Pooh Bear will never be forgotten & is already greatly missed by his human & furfamily.
Pooh Bear (our 12 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever) was rescued & adopted by us 3 years ago. He was in a very high kill shelter where his family, who had bought his as a puppy, dumped him. He was very overweight, heartworm positive, had epilepsy, & had several fatty tumors. He was overlooked by adopters due to these things. We did not adopt Pooh Bear because we felt sorry for him. Pooh Bear was special. Pooh Bear is the most well behaved & loving dog I have ever met. We were so very lucky to have him & love him so much.
All of us who have had the pleasure of sharing our lives with wonderful animals mourn your great loss. We never have them with us long enough. But gone is the pain and his spirit will be with you forever. You are in my prayers.

I am sorry of the loss of PooH Bear.
I know these words will never fill the space, but now he is with his friends, and surely looking down on his humans.
my prayers are with you, and yours. Liz

I do not know how people could have brought him to the shelter in the first place! He looks like a very lovable dog, I am sorry that he died, but I am sure he lived a good life with a very good family with you and your dogs.

I completely understand what you went through with your pooh bear. I spent over $1000 trying to save my very sick (and VERY dear) ferret, Ralph. We tried everything we could but his little body just couldn't go anymore and I had to have him put to sleep. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I'm so sorry you lost your Pooh Bear. He had a wonderful home.

a lost for a pet, is very painful. i love all my 13 pets like my own sons and daughters. i could not understand why someone would dumb any pet, just any to a killing shelter, especially as lovable and passivable as poohbear. i had rescued many of my own, especially adopted from my job after it was dumbed from their previous pet parents. how can someone be with their pet so long and then dumb them like a piece of furniture. sorry. i'm just keep going. i'm truely sorry for your loss and may he rest in peace.
