I once had a TX rat snake for a week that was extremely aggressive as well. I caught him in a birdhouse in my backyard. When i would walk into my room, he would immediatly go into a striking position, vibrate his tail, and start hitting the glass, no matter how far away i was. He was insane too!

these snakes are great. i have one that is identical to the one in the picture and evil as hell. seems about the same size too. he is an '02 snake i believe. he frequently strikes at the glass and rattles his tail when i walk past his enclosure. i usually get bitten when i pick him up but he is only around 30" long so it doesnt really hurt.

They aren't called the king of snakes in North America for nothing. :) Once your kingsnake realizes that you are not a threat the snake should change with patience and time. HANDLE IT! What is the history of this snake? Is is WC or CB? How long have you had the kingsnake and how often do you handle it? How old is the kingsnake? I have 2 kings with that kind of temperment that calmed down relatively quickly with age and regular handling, I have one king that is so tame it can barely kill a live/stunned mouse and usually swallows alive. Keep handling man and give the kingsnake some attention. Kingsnakes are formidable predators in the wild and acclimate well to human interaction. Happy Herping, Uncloudy

I have a 2 year old Cal King that gets a little edgy when I try to catch him, but has never struck. I've never seen one that aggressive. Wow.

Does just standing in front of the cage talking to the snake help at all either? Mine's also pretty mean, he's calmed down a LITTLE bit, but want to know everything I can do to help.
