This is an adult male Eastern Dobsonfly. Despite it's fierce appearance, it's quite harmless to humans. The large pincers on the head are likely for use in mating, so the male can hold onto the female. The larvae of this insect are aquatic, feeding on other insects, and are prized for fishermen as bait for Trout.
