What would you base its being a blue tegu on, versus a b&w? I've watched it grow from a hatchling to an adult for over 2 years and it's always been a typical b&w (unsure of whether Argentine or Columbia). It's at the Houston Zoo, which has a great herp staff and they don't mislabel their animals. There isn't a hint of blue, this animal has always had tar black banding.

Well first of all the size of the tegu is none near the size of a b&w tegu. And also blue tegus have way more white that B&W tegus do.

It's hard to judge size accurately based on a photo, especially w/out any comparative context like a hand or such. This is a relatively small b&w tegu, probably Columbian, and, again, has no blue coloration as defined in the website http://www.bluetegu.com, and at http://www.agamainternational.com/merianae-vs-teguixin.shtml . I couldn't find info online as to whether the blue tegu has one or two loreal scales, but the tegu in my photo appears to have two, and its pattern matches the Columbian in relation of dark pigment to light. Considering this quote "At this time the Blue Tegu appears to be an undescribed subspecies of tegu . Their origin is from Norther South America and they have similar habits to the Argentine Black & Whites and the Colombian B&W Tegus. ( The original bloodline was found in a shipment of tegus originating from Colombia)
" from bluetegu.com, I'll side with the Houston Zoo with this being a b&w. (Of course, there's always room for error.)

It may seem like a B&W tegu but they dont have that much white at all. Its defenently not a columbian black and white because they are dark black and mostly gold. Also the head is very narrow which argentine black and white tegus dont have.

The spot on the nose is a dead give away. My blue female has the very same coloring.my blue female.also has two laraul (spelling) scales also. The zoo has it wrong. If you want to see a Chacoan male , chack out my photos of Santiago.

Black,Blue whatever. I personally think that the blues are awesome, so if it is a blue ,right on dude it's gorgeus! If it's b&w then wow, that is an awesome b&w! Either way man you own it, and it's gorgeus, Be Proud of it, I would be.
