Nice sidewinder. I don't totally agree with free handling hots, but I don't totally dissagree with it either. I guess since you probably know what you are doing it's ok, but you should warn others who don't know what they are doing. When ever you post a pic like this make sure you right something like CAUTION! FREE HANDLING HOTS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND REQUIRES A LOT OF EXPERIENCE. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!

I'm looking for a sidewinder. I have the proper paperwork to collect wild animals so that is not a problem. The only thing is I can't seem to find one much less any kind of snake. Any suggestions on how to proceed. I live in Southern California (Orange County). I do "road cruzin" from about 7pm to 12am in the Mojave all the way down to Palm Springs area. Anyone know a good area to find sidewinders? Thanks!

Bonnieblueflag... Come to Barstow!! I went out the other night, saw 3 glossy's, 4 sidewinders and a mojave... Along with several banded geckos all in the span of an hour. My cruising area is hwy 247, between Barstow and Lucerne Valley. Allthough, buddies swear the Newbery Springs area is a hotspot too. You can find rosy boas between Barstow and Ft. Irwin. I believe they might be protected though... Good hunting!

Last year I was out on 247. I had a tail light out and San Bernadino Sheriff pulled me over with 3 of his buddies and put some heat on my buddy and I. I told them "Honest to God, we are just looking for snakes!" The searched my car and all that and said to me "That is the wierdest reason we have heard for someone being out here at night but we belive you." I did have my digital camera and about 10 flashlights with us. I have been meaning to go again (havent since then, not becasue of the cops) but I have been too engadged looking for red diamonds and southern pacifics in a Chino Hills State park. Thanks for the hot spot locals!!! I really apreciate it!

I'm with GaboonKeeper on this one. Awesome snake, not so awesome handling technique.

I keep hearing people say "you need lots of experience to do this"... can't the same be said of Russian Roulet? Only those who have tried it and haven't died should attempt this?! Experience in this case means lucky, plain and simple.

Could someone descript the fine line between bravery and stupidity, seems to me both go hand at hand, just depends on who's on the receiving end..

I love cerastes, we plan on making a trip to Arazona this year to catch them. Is it hard to get them to eat mice, they are strickly lizard eaters in the wild. Love the pic!!
