I am a third grade teacher and we have just found this type of spider in our room and we have made a home for it with small plants, soil and were wondering what the exact name of this spider and what it prefers in its environment to thrive (food, conditions, soil type, etc.). Thanks greiffers

I am not very knowledgable on spiders. However, I do know what a brown recluse looks like, and what a grand daddy long leg looks like. This looks like a hybrid of the two. Just my personal observation.

This is a long-legged cellar spider. They feed mostly on other spiders. they carry their babies and eggs in a silk sac. while they cannot pierce the skin and have tiny fangs, it is said that they hold a fairly powerful venom.
Its completely safe to handle these spiders, but be careful, as they tend to be fairly skittish and are very fragile.
You dont need soil, and you dont need to really worry about humidity.. they do live in houses, after all.
Feed them small insects that arent too strong. crickets wont work, as they can startle the spider and send it running away. try to give them lacewings, small beetles, flies, etc. Keep in mind they build very weak webs and are more inclined to hunt than just sit and wait idle for prey.
And Marcus, i suggest you stop blatently throwing so many erronous ideas in these people's heads. It causes confusion, and annoys people. Harvestmen and true spiders CAN'T BREED.
