Can someone please identify this rattlesnake's species, saw him when we were camping up by Ventura, CA

That is a south west pacific rattlesnake.

If you watch VenomER on Animal Planet, this is one of the two species responsible for most snakebite cases admitted to Loma Linda hospital in S.Cal, along w/ Mojave Green rattler.

Nice snake. I noticed the date of the post being in Dec. Was the photo take in in December as well? And yes I agree that it is a Southern Pacific Rattler.

How long would you say this animal was? What kind of environment did you discover it, or it discover you in?

It was a good 4.5-5ft long. It was up by lake Casitas near Ventura, CA. Rolling dry hills, also some wooded areas. The snake found us sitting at a picnic table at a grassy area around the lake. It was a beauty.
