This is a close-up of my new pet toad, Cromwell. I wish it weren't so blurry. His (or her, but I'll just use the masculine form for now) cranial crests aren't really noticable. His paratoid glands are large but not very pronounced, at least not as compared to those of an American Toad. His back bumps are also more "subtle". His belly side is nearly white. He's about 3 inches (7 or 8 centimeters) from nose to vent. If anyone knows his probable (possible, even?) species or suggested references to try to look him or her up in, I'd really appreciate some clues.

May be a Fowler's toad, but most toads have a lighter stripe down the back. Not too sure about the other guy either, since the pic is blurred, but lots of toads have yellow or white-ish specks on their backs. I'm in central texas, and also used to live in Houston, and we had Gulf Coast Toads in abundance, they almost always were speckldy with white or bright yellow, but they have big bony crests on their heads, so thats not what yours are, unless the speckled toad has them and I cant see.

Poor toads, just a heat lamp and no water. I hate going to pet shops and seeing conditions like that. One I went to was feeding baby iguanas nothing but freeze-dried green beans. Hope your toadies are doing much better now.
