Thanks for the comments Reptichik and Chris. For the substrate in this set-up I use fine crushed granite. It's readily available at most construction supply companys and is really inexpensive.

Please don't think this is a stupid question. I only have Bearded Dragons and turtles, what kind of animal is that? I don't know much out of the realm of bearded dragons and box turtles!

Yes, that's correct. It's a female reticulated gila monster. She's about 20 inches long and hopefully still growing.
