This little fella scared the crap out of me when he appeared on the wall above my computer desk. He was almost a 1/2" in body length. A bit skittish, but docile otherwise. Is this a Bold Jumper, or some other species?

did you ever find out what species this is? We caught one and have a little set up for it! It will actually wrestle with crickets! A cool little critter!

It is indeed a Bold/Daring Jumping Spider. They're fascinating to watch, & usually pretty docile, although this one was more skittish. I don't have enough materials yet for any set ups, so I let her go in the back yard. Haven't seen many since then.

Those things are EVERYWHERE here in eastern Canada. On warm summer afternoons I'll come home to find 5+ of them basking in the sun on my front door sometimes. I want to catch one this spring and see if it will feed on the pinhead sized crickets I always seem to get with my large sized crickets orders.

I usta have a question. What is the exact name and are they dangerous? My husband found one in our bathroom and I am scared to death of spiders.

The actual name is Bold Jumping Spider. Some books call them Daring Jumping Spiders, but they are one & the same. They are not dangerous @ all. Larger ones like I photographed here I suppose could bite if they felt there was no escape, but they are actually rather comical, very inquisitive, & will tame easily & hop from finger to finger. If there was a spider with a personality, jumping spider species are it.
