Nope, as far as I know this turtle was never a pet. From what I have posted in the box turtle forum at least one person seems to think the shell deformity was from an old lawnmower injury (very old). From what I gather this boxie might have gotten infected eyes and then stopped eating and drinking. When found it was dehydrated and underwieght. Since then I hav rehabbed it back to proper weight and hydrated him. I don't know if he will ever see again, but I can hope he will so he can be returned to the wild.

Before releasing box turtles back into the wild in a territory that is new to them, please read the McKeever study. We at the Gulf Coast Turtle & Tortoise Society screen interested parties and place rehabbed box turtles with people that have outdoor habitats for them.
