Keywords: Box Turtle found in a storm drain durring a BAD July storm

A friend of mine was driving on some badly flooded back roads...she got stuck in the water and was walking to some dry land when she saw this beast stuck in a "water spout" where all the water was draining down into a street drain. It was stuck in all of the trash that was also being sucked down. She pulled it free and gave me a call...it is currently under observation, and by the end of the observation period I would like to release this turtle. I am currently checking to make sure no water got into the lungs and that no respatory problems are exhibited. She recalls the area where it was found so a release still seems like a very strong possibility. This turtle has a 6 inch plus shell, and looks VERY old!

The snake in the cage behind the turtle is one of my personal favorite species. Not a good beginner snake, but a smaller species that is rather simple to work with. It is a northern pacific rattler - Crotalus viridis oreganus. It is a female, and full grown...she is right now around 3 feet in length. She may grow a tad more, but it would not be abnormal for her to stay the size she is now. She looks good in a collection with cobras, gabbys, puffs, and rhinos ;)

I see a dead mouse in the background. Do you feed her dead mice or did she bite it? I love box turts and her does look very old. Bye reptile_gal

I feel ALL of my animals frozen and thawed prey. She is a really nice snake, and a blast to work with. One of the nicest rattlers I have had the chance to have!
