A mystery spider that has taken up residence in a greenhouse at work. It's rather large.. the body alone is about 1/2" wide. I'm in northern MI, if that helps.
Although the pic is a bit dark, the size & shape have me thinking it could be one of 2 species.. try a search for European Garden Spider (Cross Spider), or Barn Spider. Both can get fairly large (body lengths alone reaching 3/4") & they are noctournal.. hiding beneath or behind something during the day near their orb web.

It might be a type of orbweaver, I'm not too sure, but the yellow tells me it's more than likely poisonious so be careful.

Orb weavers (especially larger ones) do have the capability of biting, but the chances are slim because 1) they would rather run & hide than face confict, 2) they rarely stray from their webs, 3) they would need to be mishandled, pinched, or trapped to be forced to bite. All orb weavers are venomous, but to 99.9% of the human race the result would be no worse than a bee sting or misquito bite. Their vemon is of low toxicity.

I'd love to know exactly what kind it is.. a friend and I have deemed it "Manny," so of course, I must know more. The picture actually isn't all that dark.. it really is dark like that. Really pretty markings.
I've checked on the spider types you guys have given, but none of them resemble this one. The body shape on the Euro. Garden Spider isn't the same, nor are the markings. I've looked at every spider site I can find and I can't seem to find anything like this one. :/
