I've had these turtles(one is not pictured) for a year now and do not know what species they are. I got them in eastern Massachusetts at a swamp/lake near my home and would like to know what species they are. Thanks for your help!

That is a Blandings Turtle. They are very awesome turtles, but they are threatened in Massachusetts. You really need a permit to possess any.

Thats a Blanding's turtle-Emydoidea blandingii. I don't know about the laws in Mass, but they are protected in most states they occur in. I would contact your local F&G or DNR office to see about the legality of your pets.

Thank you for your help! Would you happen to know about how I would go about obtaining a permit for these guys, and do I need to have certain qualifications to do so?
(or where would I find this info)? Thanks

It is a stretch, but based on the photo it may be a bog turtle. Based on information on turtles in Massachusetts, it is the closest match. It may also be an exotic turtle reliesed in the area where you found it.
