It looks to be some sort of species of Huntsman Spider. Spiders of this genre/family were used in the movie Arachnophobia. They can bite, but are reluctant to without good reason, & overall are considered harmless. In other countries like Australia they are welcomed in homes as they keep the bug population in check.
