This is a beetle i found in my backyard in Ohio. About an inch and a half long and 3/4 of an inch wide. It was a very dark red/brown color with very big pinchers in the front. Any idea what type it is???
Hi,
its a stag beetle. if you want to keep it. keep it in a tall container with bark on the side. some sticks too.
feed it bannana, and other fruit. they do fly. if you want to learn more go to google and type in stag beetles, or keeping stag beetles.

I do believe that it is a Pseudolucanus capreolus. It is a Lucanidae.

Hah, it's been almost a year since i've caught that beetle. So no, you may not have it, he's been released back into the wild.

I have these all over the place here in Benton, AR. On a dare, I prompted one to pinch my finger. FYI - it kinda hurts, but not bad. Barely broke the skin when he really pinched hard.
